For over a century, wristwatches have been an increasingly common way of telling time. After World War I, they went from being a rare accessory to daily wear for much of the world. Whether it be a $20 digital watch or a luxury watch worth tens of thousands, they both accomplish two things: telling time (obviously), and adding a little more of a personal touch to your outfits. One of my personal favorite pieces of any outfit is the watch that can tie it all together in a truly sophisticated way. This campus has many students and twice as many wrists to don these amazing pieces of personal fashion. Here are just a couple examples of watches around campus.

Junior Truman Heaston sports this Casio calculator watch in a silver tone, and it truly is a perfect example of not having to break the bank with the purchase of an accessory, as Casio watches are known for their fair and cheap prices. Casio watches are known for their reliability, lasting a lifetime if correctly up-kept. Heaston has been collecting watches for some time now, and the means of how this ended up in his collection is almost as simple as it can get. A family friend has inquired about Heaston’s watch collection, and upon knowing that he did collect them, he promptly gifted Heaston his silver Casio. “He had asked if I had been collecting watches, and he took it off his wrist and he gave it to my dad, and he gave it to me,” Heaston said. An incredible pick for everyday wear, with incredible everyday use cases, it proves to be an amazing addition to Heaston’s collection.

Adding credibility to Casio popularity, psychology teacher Ryan Love wears his Casio digital watch in a gold tone what seems like every day. Love can reliably be seen wearing this watch whenever you see him, and the story behind it is fitting for the frequency of wear. On a trip to Salamanca, Spain, in 2021, Love found himself in the town square with many shops. While looking around the town, he stumbled upon a watch store and decided to take a look inside. Stepping inside the store, a vintage gold toned watch caught his eye, and that same watch has been a part of his daily wear for over four years. “I wanted a gold one, and so I bought it. This was in 2021, and I’ve been wearing it ever since,” Love said. This anecdote is a prime example that the longevity of watches can be extended for as long as you’d like with proper care, creating a lasting and iconic look, as it did for Love.
