Founder’s Day is an annual event in April that celebrates and honors the founding of Dripping Springs in 1855 by the Moss, Pound and Wallace families. For three days, Dripping Springs transforms into a fair and thousands of people from across Texas come to visit and help celebrate.
“The Founder’s Day Festival; it happens every single year, it’s so fun [and] all your friends are there,” junior Aubrey Neff said. “It’s tons of fun with rides and cool prizes, also the booths are my favorite. I like shopping a lot so the booths and being able to see the small businesses is my favorite part.”
A special upcoming festival will take place to celebrate Founder’s Day this year from Apr 26-28. The festival grows just as Dripping Springs does, with not just more people attending, but more businesses and activities as well. This growth makes it different every year not just for returning visitors, but even more exciting for newcomers.
“I have never been…I expect it has something to do with the historical founding of the town, I would think it would have some sort of stand with information of the celebration of Dripping Springs,” junior Makella Gabrielides said.
Founder’s Day is similar to state and county fairs in many aspects, with fried foods, drinks, roller coasters, ferris wheels and carnival games where you can win an off-brand Pikachu plushie from AliExpress. What sets the festival apart are the many local businesses from Dripping and beyond to share what they have to offer.
“I will go [to Founder’s] because my jiu jitsu gym has a booth and I volunteered to help them run their booth,” math teacher Brent Toups said.
The event includes unique multiple organizations coming together to put on the parade only once a year during the end of April. For those who want to have some fun, Founder’s Day is the perfect day for that.
“I am so excited for Founder’s Day, I love [it],” junior Maddie Eckermann said, “They used to have this ride called ‘The Moby Dick’ and would go out in circles and it was so fun. My other favorite ride is the blackout because it goes all the way around, and I also really like caramel apples so I’m excited.”
