Feb. 14, the day couples love and single people dread. Whether you hate it because you’re spending it alone or hate the entire concept of the holiday altogether, Valentine’s day is a conflicting day for single people–but it doesn’t have to be. Instead of sulking and feeling sorry for yourself while everyone around you gifts each other roses and chocolate, you can use the day to focus on yourself or be productive. Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a dreadful love-heavy holiday if you have no one to call your Valentine.
- Self-care day: The day of love can be spent practicing self-love and focusing on yourself. A workout, yoga session, warm bath, skincare routine and a cup of tea is a great plan to spend the day in.
- Galentine’s with friends: Many forget that your Valentine doesn’t have to be your partner. Throwing a Galentine’s party with all of your best friends is a great way to spend the day of love. You can all plan to bring a different dish like a baked good or charcuterie board, and plan a fun activity like gaming or crafting.
- Watch comfort movies: Comfort movies are the ultimate activity to fall back on when you don’t have plans. Whether it’s your favorite rom-com or a Disney movie, cozying up on the couch with a blanket and some popcorn is a great way to spend an evening by yourself.
- Buy yourself chocolate and flowers: Chocolate and flowers go hand-in-hand with Valentine’s day. Spend the day treating yourself to your favorite flowers and chocolate because spoiling yourself from time-to-time is important too.
- Deep clean your house: A good, healthy mindset starts with a clean space. Clean your room, organize your closet, go through your clothes and donate whatever you don’t wear. A free day can be spent doing something productive to set yourself up for success in the near future.
- Four course meal: Go to the store and buy everything you need for a four course meal. Begin with an appetizer like a soup, and a palate cleanser like a salad before your entree and, of course, finish off with dessert.
- Retail therapy: Buying yourself a new piece of clothing, vinyl, or a book is a fantastic way to treat yourself, and gives you something to look forward to.
- Take your best friend on a date: Take your best friend out to their favorite restaurant, but don’t stop there. Dress up, take pictures and keep your mind off of your messy situationship.
